King – Brand Creative Studio
I started at King, as a graphic designer in their former inhouse agency called Brand Creative Studio, in late 2013. I worked there for about 1,5 years before I started to work as a game artist (still at King). As a graphic designer at BCS I mainly worked with creating external markering materials for our players, and also sometimes internal materials for our employees. We designed all sorts of things, from ads and banners to graphic profiles and wallpapers that hang in our offices. Our customer was the marketing section of King.
As a graphic designer in this team we were assigned games as our main focus, and I was assigned a so called ”brand expert” for the two games Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga. One of the big jobs that I did was to create marketing materials for the launch of Candy Crush Soda Saga. Besides creating ads, banners and facebook posts, I got to tweak the headers of all our biggest games, so that they had soda in them. This was a super fun mission, and I had to adjust the art style a lot depending on the original game art. For example, I hand painted the soda for the game ”Diamond Digger” in Photoshop, while the soda for ”Papa Pear” is made flat in Illustrator.
As designers we were highly involved in the whole process, from coming up with creative ideas to deliver graphics ready to use. We used a lot of existing assets, but also created a lot from scratch when needed. A good example of this is the spring campaign for Candy Crush Soda Saga, for which I drew the environment assets such as the ground, game device and flowers and did the layout as well.
I also created a playful logotype for the King group ”Royal LGBT and friends”, which was presented on the cortege during the Pride festival in Stockholm 2014.
